New Line Cinema

As some of you know, I currently work as a systems engineer for New Line Cinema. If you read the news, you know it won't be long before I no longer work for New Line Cinema. I don't know when my last day will be, and I want to work until then, so I get my severance package. But I'm thinking about my next move. I know some of the people who read this blog work in the entertainment industry here in Los Angeles; if any of you know of an opening that you think I'd be suited for, please let me know at mdessem@gmail.com. My IT-related résumé is available online here, but I'm not solely considering IT work, or the entertainment industry. I'm up for just about anything, as long as it doesn't involve watching Salò again.. Thanks!

  1. Didn't know you worked for New Line. I knew they were going down. It's sad to see. Not to mention extremely surprising given the tons of cash they must have made from LOTR.

    Hope everything works out okay.

  2. Timothy,

Well, the brand will still exist; Jeff Bewkes was talking about a 6–8 picture slate going forward. But overhead will almost certainly be covered entirely by WB employees, and that means IT, and that means me. Thanks for the kind words—I'm sure it will work out fine.

  3. I've been thinking about you ever since the news about New Line broke. I am certainly wishing you all the best. Salo is now at the top of my queue...Dragged my feet going through the Samurai Trilogy knowing Salo was next in line.

  5. This news goes to show that one genius decision (read: Lord of the Rings) can't make up for a thousand idiotic decisions (read: everything else).

I'm sorry that New Line's ineptitude has cost you a job.

  9. Hey, I'm a new fan of your blog. I also started up a movie blog on blogspot, and I am linking to your blog, hope this alright!

As for me, my project is not just seeing criterion releases, but a general list of about 1000 or so movies. I'm making up for a lifetime of not seeing anything!

Good luck with your job hunting!
